I have an ancient panasonic dvd 5,1 home cinema kit. Up until now i just used it for audio via the Optical input from the TV... this has just stopped working. I have tried a differnt cable. i tried using anohter blue ray player as the source audio still nothing.. speakers will still work if i use the built in DVD player. just nothing from the optical source

just wondered if there is an easy fix . no loss if i have to take it apart.. Ive had my moneys worth out of it

Use the RCA aux input on the back instead? Otherwise take it apart and inspect the board, see how hard it would be to replace the optical port, which may not itself be the actual problem.

is RCA still 5.1?
No it can't sorry but I meant at least to get a sound through the system. It would probably fall back to prologic using the stereo source via RCA, which would be basically fake 5.1... i.e. speakers all make sound but it's virtual surround splitting up a stereo signal. Better than nothing but won't sound great.

I'll probably whip the bonnet off, and give it some air blasting then call it a day. The Sony HTS40R looks good for my budget
