FFS guys, I put "sata optical caddy" into a well known auction site and the first hit was practically targetted at you guys.

Fair enough if something is hard to find but come on.

I think all the ODD are the same. If yours can be removed by just removing a single screw at the bottom then you should be OK. Won't work for slot loading drives though which are built in to the laptop chassis.

On the auction site I searched for a IBM or Thinkpad caddy and found lots of similar looking non-genuine ones from China.

IIRC there were two depth sizes, 9.5 and 12.5mm. I bought the thinner one first for my VAIO F but it left too much of a gap inside the case and I had to hold it in place with a piece of cardboard. A guy at work also bought the same one and it fitted his MSI laptop perfectly. I then bought the thicker model and it fits perfectly.

The caddy came with a straight bezel. I removed and replaced this with the one from the original optical drive which keeps the curved lines of the laptop. I put the ODD in an external case (£10), these don't come with a fascia so that's another £5.

Edit: found the old receipts

For the caddy search for "12.7 caddy" or "T400 caddy" for the 9.5mm one.

For the ext case search for "USB external laptop cd case"

For the bezel search "Slim dvd faceplate"

Around £20 for a caddy, bezel and external case for the ODD is a cheap upgrade.
