Hi there,

I am running Vista, fully updated, no SP1.

I switched on my laptop today and my DVD drive is not showing in My Computer.

I think it may have something to do with Deamon Tools and me disabling all the virtual drives.

Help me get it back!

Thanks.

Open disk management and reset the drive letter.

If not - check out this thread (although, I'm not sure if it applies to Vista...)

The drive doesn't show in disk management - its only showing my disk drives.

Went: Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Computer Management -> Disk Management.

Have you been burgled? Noticed any odd people near your house lately?

....oh dear....

Just checked device manager, and it says it can't load the drive, has a yellow exclamation mark by the DVD drive.

BIOS picks it up as i can boot from cd fine.

You could try uninstalling it by right clicking then picking uninstall from the device manager then restarting. Hopefully it'd detect it within Windows when your computer starts up.

To solve the issue, you have to edit the Windows Registry:

Click Start, type REGEDIT in Start Search .Click on regedit

Locate and then remove the following registry values:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE,SYSTEM,CurrentControlSet,Control,Class{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}LowerFilters
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEM,CurrentControlSet,Control,Class{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}UpperFilters

Close Registry Editor.

Reboot the system for the changes to take effect.
