What is the best way to record to HD using an optical input from a sony MiniDisc? What program??? and, can Windows Media Player do this???

I have the Sony MZ-RH1 and it wont let me transfer the contents via USB on one of my discs created using my old computer. I know you can transfer using the optical out but I can't seem to hear/adjust the input to record it on the PC... what am I missing?

Thanks

Isn`t there software bundled with the card to record in?,i`d have thought so.
I`d also have a look at your mixer ,sometimes the `digital in`is muted or fader down/not activated but you`ll need software to record in so you can `monitor` what the md is playing, otherwise you won`t hear anything.Once you press `record` or `monitor` you`ll hear the sound.
I use soundforge for that but thats prob overkill for you, have a look for freeware recorders.

Sound recording direct to HD

hello and thanks for your response...

Since trying to use the SB Audigy Platinum for serious fun I have learnt that it isn't up to the job... so, I have invested in the M-Audio 24/96 card and will be using Wavelab 6 to record...

I have looked at the freeware but, seriously its just like soundforge (I have tried v8). Nothing is where it should be and you have to learn the program rather than getting on with what you want to do - why I have always preferred / used wavelab.

No worries, just trying to save yer pennies there.Glad you got the 2496? got mine a few months ago can`t get over the difference in quality,i`m hearing details in music that weren`t present with my old sblive.
