I do a lot of walking in the dark, usually through some very unlit areas, at present I only have a tiny LED keyring torch that isn't much use really. I'm looking for something with a decent battery life (multiple LED maybe?) and would also like it to be a easily carryable weight so I can take it whenever I want. It needs to be fairly bright becuase as I mentioned some of the areas I walk have no light at all.

I wouldnt even know where to start, so I'm just wondering if others here already have something that might fit the bill, or know of any suggestions as to what I should get. Budget is upto around £30.

Thanks.

For The Win ;)

Maglite, really good and they can be good weapons too if someone decides to challenge you in the dark ;)

Failing that... one of those head torches... they are pretty good with excellent visablity and the brightness is unreal from 3 LED bulbs.

Useful spec me thread! :D Been thinking of getting a torch for a while but wasn't sure what to get. Like you I have to walk home in the dark from a pub at the moment. Where I live is quite safe especially compared to Salford. Don't feel safe there during the day tbh.

Anyway I've been eyeing up the Inova X5. I think it looks gorgeous and from the pics of it, it is quite a compact torch so easily carryable in a pocket etc. It is also LED powered. Or some of the others look bigger, more powerful and have a longer effective range.

When i last went to usa, found that torches are MUCH cheaper there. You could get the big chunky maglites for $20 (around £12) but i went for a bright LED torch, found it is brighter than the maglites my step brothers went for, and it is white, not yellow like a maglite. Dont look straight into them though, hurts.

don't get a multi led light they're rubbish.
Look on the bay for a 3w or 5w luxeon, they are a wall of light
You'll struggle to get penetrating distance with an led though

Just googled Luxeon. Are they the flick ones? Made by Flicklite?

Maglite if you don't mind lugging a massive metal torch around. But if you want a much smaller much brighter torch with a longer battery life then get a surefire or similar led torch. A single led so its very small and can easily fit in your pocket.

TBH I think some of you are going over the top with torch suggestions.

I would look at either Innova (link above) or LED-Lenser, both make excellent LED torches which are light, compact, can be carried anywhere and have good battery life without compromising on the output.

The X5 is a good torch for what you are looking for. I personally have a LED-Lenser V2 Aviator. It has 5 white LED's and a red one you can use seperatly. Its a superb torch, I have used it as a makeshift spotlight on my bike when cycling in the dark, thats how bright it is. It cost £35 so is pretty much on your budget too. :)

Best bet is to go to somewher like Blacks or Cotswold outdoor and have a look at torches there, stay clear of Millets as they don't really have anything of quality in them. :o

Got a blacks in town, so I'll have a look on thursday. Thanks for the suggestions so far, will have a play.
