Optical/SPDIF Out Also none as Toslink, but never so far been able to track down a female toslink connector ?

Hi all I'm trying to make or buy a digital out for my three pin header on mother board "Gigabyte GA-G31M-ES2L" see pic below as example

spdifaudiobracket.jpg

dint really need the Coaxial connection shone above just the digital connector ......... and please i all ready herd all the arguments about why would u need a digital out when your sound card supposed to do this, but mine on-board for the moment and would be more convenient to connect to my AV

Anyway the closest Ive got to finding the female toslink connector is from "Tecnec" called a "Re-TOSBL" but only seem to be in USA want to buy from england if i can plus not exactly what i was after but would probably work

Any help advice welcome Cheers Webb

Thanks vanandjuanunited checked out your suggestions

the Gigabyte Motherboard RCA S/PDIF 12CR1-1SPINO-11R cable
is a six pin connector which handles in and out, just need out ..... but could cannibalize to make work if all ells fails but Australia and not great feedback

ASUS Gigabyte MSI ECS SPDIF RCA Out Plate Cable Bracket
now this looked more promising with a three pin connector spaced too much for my board but could fix that, but again USA ????

why cant u buy in UK ? cant even find the bare bones parts here ?

I'm somewhat surprised these brackets aren't more readily available on the famous auction site, etc. They were fairly common years ago.

Maybe a cheap Terratec Aureon sound card from the famous auction site, if you have a spare PCI slot.

on my old "P4" board using a PCI sound card turned off the on-board sound .... but it also turned off usb ports and fire-wire will my currant board do anything similar? "Gigabyte GA-G31M-ES2L"

and yes Marsman "Terratec Aureon sound card" well cheep from that famous auction site :)

would any of these cards be better than my on board sound ? (or even still supported) or just use the parts to make what i was originally looking for ?

as allways any help advise welcome Webb

well guess ill soon know just acquired a "Terratec Aureon 5.1 Sound Card PCI" from that said site, for a measly £3.49 including postage :)

If you are using SPDIF, then that bypasses any audio processing. A motherboard or cheap sound card with SPDIF, would be no different from a £50 sound card. The main difference when using SPDIF between, let's say the average motherboard or cheap sound card and a £50 sound card, is the features. Sound quality will be no different, as it's the external device, whether it be an AV receiver, or speakers such as Logitech's Z5500, that will process the digital data into analogue sound.

As Marsman said if you're using a digital connection then whatever is at the receiving end does all the decoding. The only time a sound card is justified if you'll be using an external DAC is if you want to encode DTS on the fly to have surround sound in games for example. Or in my case I have a card (Xonar DG) connected to my external DAC so I can get Dolby Headphone which my amp doesn't have built in.

All that said i still want to use features from on board sound as well as digital signal to my av thats why i wanted the optical plate if the sound card does both ill be ok :)
