Hi all,

I'm in the process of building a new computer within the next month or so. I've decided on the processor, the Q6600 and would just like to know the optimal memory speed to be used with this processor? I've not picked out a motherboard yet so I'm not restricting myself. Rather, I want to wait until I've found out what the best memory to use is and then I'll choose accordingly from my available options. I am not going to overclock at all and would like 4GB of the stuff. The system will also be used almost exclusively for playing games (:D) so the faster the better. I wouldn't go as far as saying money is no object but I'll pay the extra £ if need be.

Thanks for the advice.

I've never overclocked before and I've had a brief look at guides and such but it seems pretty complicated with a lot of things that can go wrong. It comes down to me not really having the time or desire to look into it. I just want to put it all together with the stock fan, etc. and power up and not have to mess around with anything in BIOS, stress test, etc.
 
Thanks, I'm going to post a final spec sometime in the future. I think I'm falling into the trap that you mentioned above where I'm paying a premium for components that are designed to be overclocked when I'm not going to take advantage of them. So I could save a small fortune just sticking with the "basic" stuff.

I'd appreciate your input, Cob as well as everyone elses when I finally get a spec nailed down.
