Optimised SETI apps

I'm using naparst optimised apps on my linux machines and getting stonking times between 1500-2500 secs. I haven't managed to find similarly fast apps for my windows boxes though, using crunch3rs apps it's still taking just over an hour on my dual opty 275 box, which seems a little off.

Anyone got any suggestions or is this just a known problem between linux and windows crunchers?

My fastest machine is a FX-51 using the caching app and optimised boinc client. That does one WU in between 30 and 35 minutes flat.

My dual-core 4800+ does one in just over 40 minutes but does two at a time. Same client/app.

Both on winders.

What client are you using and do you have a link to it at all please???
My dual Xeon takes 1.54 each unit but thats 4 at a time, been looking for an optimised client for ages!!
Thanks

If your times are right my times seem to be way off. My x2 4400 @2.3 does one in 2:10 (2 at a time) and my xeons @2.6 do 1 in just over 4 hours (4 at a time).

That seems awfully slow to me, both running xp with standard boinc client.

i just looked at my P4 3.2

p4-seti1.jpg

the times are for two WUs

i think i get a lot of sweet WUs...

for Info, the best BOINC Client, is Trux Calibrating BOINC core client

http://boinc.truxoft.com/

and the best Seti App

http://www.guntec.de/Crunch3r/setix86.html

SSE1 ore SSE2, ore SSE3...

remember

first make a Backup, second install the BOINC Client, third install the Seti APP

and dont forget to update your app_info.xml...

regards
Sir Ulli

I just downloaded the alpha BOINC client, and saw a 20% faster benchmark result!!!

Should help me move up the table a bit...now to stick on the works Athlon 64...mwahhhhhaaaahhhhaaa

So if I install both those files my time should come down drastically? At the moment i'm running the latest official boinc release.

Ive also recently been getting quite a few computational errors on both machines. Any ideas?

Is this normal?

boinc.JPG

Especially the cc calibration failed and the red lines at the bottom?

I copied the everything in the main boinc folder from the first link and then changed the name of two of the files in the second link to their correponding files in the projects/seti folder and placed all 3 files into the folder. Then restarted boinc and seti. The CPU test shows a marked increase (about 2x).

Any help would be apreciated. :)

Put the optimised boinc & clients on 3 of my crunchers so far and here are the findings:
2500+ barton (clocked@2037MHz) From 3:10 to 1:25 :D
P4 3.0 Prescott ([email protected]) from 1:40 to 1:05 :D
Dual Xeon 2.8 ([email protected]) from 1:54 to 1:25 :D
Well pleased with the results especially on the barton, over halved the times but the calibration seems weird its calling for less credit!

29/03/2006 23:46:46|SETI@home|CC calibration: 20.41 >> 15.14 (time: 4543s >> 3019s / Gfpops: 1.98 >> 2.88)

Still hope my output will go up as a result
thanks Sir Uli

I was getting no finished file errors on my barton box but when i overclocked it they stopped, go figure!!!

What files did you rename? i didnt see anything about renaming files, just stopped boinc (and checked in task manager) did a backup of the whole boinc folder, then copied the new boinc & client files to the respective places restarted and that!

I think if you renamed the files and put app_info.xml in the folder then boinc will be looking for the 4.11 version of seti instead of the 4.18 that you renamed them to. copy the 3 seti files again but dont rename any of them this time and see if that works.

mine also brings up all these errors...... doesnt seem very clever!!! :o

had no probs at all with these, worked first time, did you rename any files Adam?

nope, didnt see anything about renaming files?

the seti.exe and boinc is now working totaly fine on my A64 rig, work units gone from 1hour to 45minutes (x2 on a x2 4800) I was using optimised stuff before, but still, 15minutes less time is great

However, my XP rig (win2k) doesnt like that Boinc client at all, they bring up a message about libeay32.dll missing, and the app never loads seti so it sits there idle. The standard optimised boinc i got from somewhere else, and the optimised seti.exe for P3's (that is the XP client right?) works fine on the rig however.

Ok i've copied back both sets of files into their respective folders. But i still have a cc calibration failed (about 10 of them) is that normal for a first time? I dont seem to have any red errors anymore though.

It seems to have worked this time, got times of around 40 mins, problem is it now keeps running out of WU's every hour.

Thanks everyone, now just need to put it on my xeon machine and were good to go! :D

Yep using the P3 SSE2 client for my barton box so should work ok with yours, what XP is it?? did you check with CPUZ what extentions it supports??

ok with these clients i seem to be getting mostly 45minutes WU times on my X2 4400... the main problem however seems to be that almost 80% of my units STOP at 20minutes, or 0minutes, ie they never even get computed

im worried that these clients are infact NOT helping the SETI team at all, ie returning faulty results.
