I'm having trouble getting good performance out of uTorrent and can only think it's the way i have it configured. No matter how many or few torrents i am downloading and regardless of how many seeds / peers i never get over 300kb/s. I generally sync at around 5.5mb so there is plenty more room.

My current settings are:
Uploads limited to 60kb/s (sync at 866).
Global Max Connections: 800
Peers per Torrent: 150
Upload Slots per Torrent: 15

Any ideas how i can speed things up?

ISP is UKFSN, when i signed up there were no caps / traffic shaping. I have a Cisco 800 series (852w i think) and yes port forwarding is setup. Speed is the same no matter what time of day.

Here's a speedtest i did just now:

I'll try setting the upload a bit lower then and dropping max connections.

Does that patch stop XP from only having 10 consecutive IP connections?

OK have changed my settings now, very close to my limit this month so cant check till after 10. Settings are:

Uploads limited to 30kb/s
Global Max Connections: 500
Peers per Torrent: 100
Upload Slots per Torrent: 10

After putting back the settings to how they were before i'm still getting the same speeds lol. Must just be some crappy torrents this time. I've gone down the route of using the settings from the speed guide. I think i did xx/384 then just rounded everything up to round numbers. Will see how it goes. Problem is even from minute to minute you might be downloading from different sources so there is no immediate way to see if things have improved. I'll wait till my net batch of torrents and see then.

EDIT

LOL after all that the speeds jumped to over 200 with the new recommended settings for the first time all night. Settings now are:

Upload:35
Global Max: 250
Peers per Torrent: 100
Upload per Torrent: 5

Current Settings:

Upload:45
Global Max: 250
Peers per Torrent: 100
Upload per Torrent: 5

Quite pleased with that so will stop tinkering.

Try forcing encryption in the options > Bittorrent > protocol encryption > set it to forced or enabled.

Might help out for the people being traffic shaped.

Encryption is already on. As far as i know shaping doesnt work like that though, common ports get priority and unknown high ones will get the same bandwidth whether ecnrypted or not, whatever is left over.

Q1.Whats the best range to have the open port for utorrent then? Will it make a difference if I change the port ?

(p.s. Im on BT :( and I know they traffic shape)

Q2. Also what does the Ask Tracker for Scrape Information do? It is currently unticked.

I really dont think it matters what port you use (utorrent doesnt use a range), anything random will do. Have no idea about the second question im afraid.

Bit of a thread revival but i've had some nice results with upping max connections and lowering peers per torrent:

Current Settings:

Upload:30
Global Max: 400
Peers per Torrent: 50
Upload per Torrent: 5

Currently downloading 10 torrents and am touching 650k at this moment in time.
