I currently run a Ryzen 9 5900X with a 3090 and am not seeing the performance I would like in games such as Cyberpunk and Alan Wake 2.

I'm considering speccing out a new build, wondering whether it makes sense to look at upgrading to AM5 with an x3D and 4090, or is now a bad time with new hardware around the corner?

It is a very bad time to buy into a high-end PC if you have one that you can "get-by" with, because we're so late into the cycle with the 4090 and awaiting new CPUs from AMD and Intel.

Alan Wake 2 Ray Tracing Without upscaling, at 1080p, the RTX 4090 only get 83 FPS, 60 FPS at 1440p, 32 FPS at 4K. You can double the frames by using upscaling tech , dlss and such but I would hold off for the 5090.

I'm running a similar build, 12700k and a 3090.

There's nothing at the moment that makes me want to upgrade. I'll likely do it when we have the next AMD 3d chips and the nVidia 5 series is out.

Thank you, so far the FSR frame generation shim/mod has been a lifeline to get playable frames in Cyberpunk but the urge to throw money for a better experience is definitely there.

Any idea when we'll start seeing real benchmarks for the new Ryzen chips? I've also been searching for more concrete information on the 5090 but nothing solid that I can find so far.
