Hi all,

I have a Intel G620 in my htpc, bought second hand as a temporary measure until i decided on upgrading.

For some time I was not going to however, Shrinking a dvd, running media centre master and watching a film is just a bit too much for the cpu.

In the future the most stressing thing the cpu would be doing is playing a film/streaming to xbox360 and recording a tv programme.

What is the most power efficient cpu for these sort of tasks?

Is a i3 3220 3.3ghz. 55w (i am assuming this would be up to the task)

or a

Intel Core i5 3550S,1155, Ivy Bridge, Quad Core, 3.0GHz 65w

now i know people say these energy saving models are not cost effective so i could get a 3770k and underclock it, low base with high turbo (if possible)

I am probably looking to remove my gfx to save power also

My pc spec is below
If I were to buy a cheaper cpu i may upgrade my ssd as it only ever has 2gb free and is an old sata 2 model.

Gigabyte Z77-D3H
Intel G620 2.6Ghz
Corsair Vengeance low profile 2x 4gb
Radeon HD 5450 Sapphire silent
Kingston 30gb ssd now
2tb Samsung hdd
Coolermaster modular 550W
