I'm well informed about the higher end of the graphics card market as I keep up to date for upgrading my own PC.

However, my son and I are going to build him a PC together and the budget I'm aiming for (around £500 ish) means we'll be looking at the low end of the market, not something I have much knowledge or experience of.

I'll of course read reviews, but keen to get experience from people on here of cards around the £150-£200 mark. We have a 1080p 60Hz monitor that we'll reuse for this. The PC will be used for homework and some gaming - Fortnite, Overwatch, Minecraft and probably some of the older games in my Steam library.

We're not considering a laptop as him learning more about building PCs (matching and choosing components etc) is part of the thing. The case will probably be a mini ITX due to the space available on his desk - I expect that there aren't long cards at this price point but thought I would mention that in case.

The current stock situation is only marginally better at the lower end and even then you almost limited to Nvidia, 1650 Super to the 1660 Supers have half decent availability but AMD ae still offering the RX 580's which are getting a bit long in the tooth now but for 1080p 60 they can still do a job.

At 1080P with a 60Hz monitor and the games you listed, you could pretty much get by with intergrated graphics. Unfortunatley the low end is incredibly stagnant, with both Nvidias and AMD's previous generation of cards too expensive really for their performance. (looking at you 1650 & 5500). Get yourself either a 570 if cheap, or a 580 at under £150. If you can find a 5500xt for similar price to the 580 thats also an option. (the 5500xt is basically the same speed).

I've got an rx580 8gb and gtx1660super here, both brand new and I've been putting both through their paces on the same rig. My advice is go for the 1660 super out of those two, bit faster, quieter and pulls slightly less power, BUT if cheap enough, say £120-£150, I'd go for the 580 and put the money saved towards some ram or better mobo.

Perfect comparison, thanks!
