Options for better cooling

Hi,

I am running an Antec NSK2480 with a Athlon II x2 240e and a 1.5 WD HDD in my HTPC.

I have noticed the temperatures are a little higher than I would like - both CPU and Mobo temps around 41 degrees.

I am going to be adding another 2TB HDD which is going to add further heat and I would like to look at my options for trying reduce the temperature.

The case has two fans (2 x 12 cm) that connect directly to the psu and have 3 manual controls (I currently have them both on low).

I can turn both the fans on to medium, but am worried that this might increase noise quite a bit.

Ideally, I would like to find an automatic fan controller that I could plug the two fans into and then this connects to the MOBO's 3-pin Chassis Fan Connector to track temperature and speed up fans automatically as temperature increases.

Does such a thing even exist?

Your views would be much appreciated.

Thanks

It all depends on your motherboard. Some can adjust the fan automatically or manually while some others simply power the fan without adjustment.

You can buy molex (PSU 4 pin) to male 3 pin adapters for at most £1 which will allow you to connect them to your motherboard headers.

Have you given your pc a good clean, including the cpu heatsink as this can yield some fantastic results for a pc that is clogged with dust.

Hi there - thanks for the reply.

Unfortunately, have already given the computer a good cleaning.

I have looked at the motherboard manual and it says that of the 4-pin CPU header, the 3-pin PWR header and the 3-pin CHA header, only the CPU supports Q-Fan. Does this mean that the CHA header cannot control a fan and also, would this mean that it also would not be able to sense temperature?
