So im in the process of talking my cousin through building his new pc over skype (gonna take time lol) but my only issue ive came to realise is that how will he be able to install windows, like i can get it for free, because yeah, and am able to load it on a disc or a usb, but i live about 30 mins away from him and cannot get it to him today, and he wants to play, as do i lol.
I don't fully know what is the best way to do this, he currently has a pc, and will be transferring the current 1tb hard drive over to the new pc, will the current installed version of windows not work? Or am i wrong in thinking this?

Any advice will be appreciated on any of the matters including helping him lol

Thanks in advance

Best bet, would be to download an ISO for his OS and put it on his hdd. Put the hdd into new PC and do a fresh install from the ISO. Just make sure any data he wants to keep is on a separate partition. He can also download his chipset and drivers for the new mobo, including any graphics drivers.
What OS does he have, might be able to link him to the right one.

He has windows 7, not 100% sure which version, but is an oem from *********, so yeah probably home premium 32bit

No competitors as per the FAQ. Thank you.

actually scrap that, he has 6gb of ram, so will be 64 bit, ill ask him too look when he comes back from having his dinner :p

Okay, he is downloading it now, how do i go about getting this to load when i put the drive in the new pc? explain the whole process from after i have it downloaded please lol.
Im good with computers, just dont tend to reinstall windows as its a pain, so needed help ;)

The best way would be with a flash/pendrive if he has one. Use windows 7 tool to make the drive bootable and select the ISO. That's the easy way.

Or he can burn it to a dvd, if he has an optical drive. He can use the windows 7 tool for this as well.

But, if he has none of the above, then he can install from within windows. If he is going from intel to intel or amd to amd, he should be ok. In windows 7, he will need to have Daemon tools or similar software, in order to mount the ISO. Once mounted, just click on it so it opens in another window. Then click on setup and it will install. Make sure he has backed up any data on his OS partition prior to the new install.

Strangely enough, it worked fine, just swapping the harddrive straight into the new pc, like you said, he was going intel to intel though, so may of made it easier...
