Options for updating B450 BIOS

So at work, instead of buying computers prebuilt I've started to build them myself to save a bit of money and have a bit more customisability.

For this particular build I decided to go with a Ryzen 5 3600

The motherboard I'd like to go with is https://www.overclockers.co.uk/asro...-am4-ddr4-mini-itx-motherboard-mb-16a-ak.html but I'm aware that the BIOS may or may not (probably not) be compatible with the 3rd gen Ryzen CPU so it's likely that it won't work. Currently I don't have another CPU that's compatible so won't be able to do the BIOS update required.

I asked Overclockers support and unfortunately they don't provide the service. I know you can request a loan CPU from AMD but wouldn't want to risk that taking a long time. The only other option I can find is to buy a (comparatively) cheap CPU to do the BIOS update with. This would cover me if I were to do the same again (3rd gen ryzen + B450 chipset) and is still cheaper than getting an X570 motherboard that is massive overkill for what I need! Any other ideas?

Purchase a B450/X470 motherboard, Ryzen 3000 series processor, and our BIOS Update Service, and we'll update the motherboard to the latest BIOS before shipping for FREE (normally £9.99).

Look to someone who does provide that service. Also, the MSI B450i is a better board and can be found for £113.

Nope. Search for lowest price on MSI B450i.
Found it! Might just go with this, it works out just under £10 more than elsewhere but better to be safe than sorry!

Thanks all for the advice on the Motherboard - Don't need the extra M.2 slot so the gigabyte one isn't really needed. Will go with the MSI with the better VRM and the 'free' BIOS update

More than "slightly": 360A for 6x IR3555 vs. 200A of 4x IR3556
That's best quality VRM of all MSI B450/X470 boards.

aye, let down by slow wifi and audio. really slow wifi

God that is AWEFUL wifi- OP. use wired connection !

I'm lucky as have latest BT/Sky routes that use MIMO .

Trying to find PCB layers for both - though they should both run 3600hz easily ! Aorus X570 ITX should run 4000-5000hz like Xtreme does

Yes with the reseller. Surprised Overclockers can't offer this! Even if they charged a small amount for it. Oh well!

We're on gigabit leased line here so everybody is on ethernet. Wifi is only there for guests and mobile phones. Having wi-fi on a desktop is just as a backup. Though will likely disable it

ocuk are very busy most likely. B450 MSI should do you well, just make sure reseller has good RMA is this is Business based - heck you should be buying it via distributor . MSI are EU based from RMA, gigabyte is UK. Distributor should be able to swap boards depending on their account level etc . Though board failure rate should be tiny ! and if office based, would just whack cheapest 3000/3200hz ram you can find !
