Options for upgrade over the next few months

Wife is after an upgrade from her Z1 compact, her contract runs out February next year.

She wants a bigger screen and mainly uses her existing phone for games and movies.

She likes my Nexus 6 and I've considered the Galaxy S6 but I'm wondering if there's anything newer on the immediate horizon?

Decent battery life and flagship performance preferred.

Thanks for the suggestion. Looks like a cut down version of the Nexus 6. I'm guessing there's no new flagships on the horizon then?

It's actually an upgrade from the 6 :p. Better SoC, better camera. It's a slightly smaller size as most people found the original 6 a tad too large.

The S7 is rumoured to be out early next year but I've no idea if it will be avaliable when your wife's contract runs out. There's also possibly the Xperia Z6 which may be announced at the Mobile World Congress which usually happens in February.
 
The Galaxy S6 is a really nice looking phone and I would have had one if I was convinced that tales of its sporadic battery life were greatly exaggerated, even with the latest updates.

My wife has just got an iPhone 6s Plus, moving from the 5S. If iOS is an option, they are very nice phones. There're also a couple of good deals on the 'standard' 6S 64Gb at the moment viewable over the first few pages on hotukdeals. One of them includes 'free' Spotify if this appeals to your wife. The screen on the 6S is only incrementally larger over the Z1 compact however - 4.3 vs 4.7.

There's always something newer on the horizon though and you'll never win waiting for it unless it's a month or two away.
