Need some help with monitor choice!

I currently have a Samsung Synchmaster 2443BW which is OK but would I be better off upgrading and would I notice the difference? I see Dell have a 24" IPS screen for about £300 that looks tempting - just not sure I am going to see a noticeable improvements.

Any thoughts on what would make a good upgrade? Help would be welcome!

Perhaps you could edit that so it makes some sense.

Especially the first line.

Only last week i changed my monitor from the Samsung you have to the dell Ultrasharp U2412 and can honestly say the improvement is vast and i certianly have no trouble gaming all though im only a casual gamer .

You could probably sell the samsung for roughly £120 making the upgrade not as painfull on the wallet and im certian you would love the improvement in colours of the IPS screen.

I have just replaced my Samsung 243B (way older than yours) for the Dell U2412M.
Much much better colours. I use the monitor and still come top of the round on BC2 so IPS lag isn't ruining my pr0-ness.

SM2443BW is pretty slow by todays standards, it's a non-overdriven TN, so 5 ms, and in practice that works out slower than an overtdriven IPS from what I can see (having just done a SM2443BW to U2312HM upgrade). Some colours used to smear badly on mine. The main difference with the upgrade you want to do though is viewing angles. You'll probably notice the top of your 2443BW is darker than the rest of the screen (if you don't try setting your wallpaper to a single colour), and that doesn't happen on an IPS. Also I think you will get a better black depth based on the U2412M reviews I've seen, not massively so, but still better.

Thanks thats very helpful! You are right about the darkness.

Do you think if I upgrade then I'll be saying to myself "Thats money worth spent"then ??

tbh when i got an new monitor a good quality ips ( even with glass front ) it was the bestmost noticable upgrade i ever made , lets face it you turn your pc on and look at the screen all the time your using it TREAT YOUR EYES !

one thing i have realised with glass front screens btw is the blacks are just amazing compared to matt screens, allright you get the reflection but out the 2 i'd rather have black blacks instead of grey blacks.
