im getting a dual core cpu soon and still confused which is best for me, its for online gaming and i have a 7800 gtx.....its either an opteron 170 or x2 4400....got any advice.....and also will want to overclock it....please help cause i aint gotta clue.....also what mem do i need

Both will be fine for your needs. The last batch of 170's clocked very well indeed 2.8+.
The 4400 won't reach that high on air as they need more volts = more heat.

The 4400 runs at 2.2 and the 170 at 2.0Ghz stock. Dividers are 11 and 10 respectively.

The 170 is out of stock ATM.

I and a few others were lucky with our 170's but the next batch may well be different.

I would recomend 2Gbs of ram. Corsair are my preferred make.
PC3200 and above, pc4000 would be be best at the lowest Latency possible.

how much have you to spend?

Yeah, my opty 170 from ocuk is doing 2.7ghz on default 1.3 volts - 300HTT x 9, goes up to 3.0Ghz with about 1.5v too, but nearly fried my board doing it.

It really depends if you want to be overclocking or not. Also if you are going to overclock you need to make sure the rest of the system is going to match and support overclocking.

If you just want a rock solid system for gaming, then maybe the X2 would be a better bet being 2.2Ghz over 2.0Ghz of the opty.
