guys,
I have an opurtunity to buy this chip at around £100 but I am not convinced by its potential to reach 2.6GHz (the minimum I would like)

Anyone got this chip ?
What OC did you get ?
Heat and volts ?

Opterons are usually good clockers due to them being server chips. Iv got an opty 170 at 2.7ghz 1.488 volts, the problem is keeping them cool, if you can keep it cool, im sure it will clock high, i know for a fact this chip (170) does 2.8 on water.

Id say go for it and sell your old one, wont cost you -that- much then, and you will have a nice dual core servery chip type thingy :D, i know dual core in windows makes a mahoosive difference for me, and potato shop is just simply awesome

165 (1.8 GHz)
170 (2.0 GHz)
175 (2.2 GHz)

Cool, thanks guys,..I might just be joining the x2 club :)
Although I am a little sceptical that I will notice too much of a difference in games, I guess it never hurts to have more raw power available.

As for keeping things cool,..I use a AC Freezer pro for my 144..use same again for Dual Opty or something better ?

I bought an Opteron 165 from OcUK in May, got 2.8Ghz at 1.45v but I ended up running it at 2.6GHz at 1.4v. Never checked the temps, but it didnt crash so that was good enough for me :) Stock heatsink, too.
I've never heard of an Opteron that was a bad clocker...
