Opty 165 or X2 ?

If you had the chance of an Opteron 165 or a cheap 4200+ X2 , which would you get? I am thinking of getting the opty 165 as it has bigger core and clock speeds can always be added with overclocking ( i have water cooling).

However, which would be best for gaming and value?

Depends on the relative prices of the two chips really. Do you know the stepping of the 165?

The opteron stepping will be : CCBWE 0602 BPM4 for £185 too. However, im debating waiting for the cheaper X2's , but at this price, didnt know if it was worth it or not

The 165 is only any good overclocked as, at its standard 1.8Ghz, it ain't up to much. From what little I know, virtually all of them will do at least 2.4Ghz on air, with the good steppings getting to the high 2s or even 3Ghz.

X2 4200 is only 512K Cache. 165 is 1 Meg.

Nobody buys a 165 to run at 1.8. These things are made for clocking.
