So is it worth me upgrading from my current setup as shown in my sig to a newer Conroe or will the difference in games be so minor that its not worth the effort?
 
Upgrading from an Opty 165 just for games is not much of a difference as games are concerned - but encoding YES ! or you could do the following invest your ££££'s in a cheap setup.

C2D 6300

2 x 1GB DDR Memory

Gigabyte DS3 Motherboard or Asrock (this board will limit your o/c)

Your looking around £350 or less depending on where you buy the stuff from.
 
Thanks for the advice guys. I guess its best to just wait until the new DX10 cards are out and upgrade to one of those before upgrading my cpu.
