the only way is to take the heatsink off, clean the compound away and write all the numbers down

There is a really simple way to find out that....look on the CPU IHS! Other than that there is no way afaik of finding out that info.

The 170 will start of with something like

CCBWE or CCB1E then 4 numbers ,0550(Year05week50), Then other info such as UPMW FPAW VPMW etc i.e mine is a CCBWE 0550 UPMW

Oh well, i thought there might of been an easier way but as the zalman took me so long to get fitted i don't think it's worth the hassle

Correct me if I'm wrong, but is the Zalman not just held down by a bracket with 2 screws? Wouldn't you just need to unfasten the two screws and it will come off...?

You would think so wouldn't you, but no, the zalman coupled with the postition of my psu meant that after installing the motherboard into my antec case the psu blocked any levarage i had to get the second screw in. All after connecting all the cables etc i don't really want to go through it all again! Bluddy psu screws are fused to the case!
