Which should I get, Until about 3 days ago I was convinced that nothing would sway me away from the opty, but recent comment in other threads have got me thinking. Several people have now commented that the opty's aren't clocking anywhere near as well as they used to, and that the faster std speed of the 4400 would be the better option and probably clock just as well.

Personally I think that the Opty is still my best option, but anyone got any comments or experiences to back any of this up?

I would go for the 4400, saves £12 at OCUK. Mine does 2.7GHz on air, most seem to do 2.6-2.8 at a push these days. Can't speak for the 170, but I would be inclined to say the choice is between the 4400/170 or the 165 to be honest.

The 4400 is a bit less on ocuk but the 170's seem to be clocking high at the moment. Depends if you want to risk paying extra for something not guaranteed. id go for the 170

Along the same lines, is it true AMD will not support you if you run a server chip on a desktop pc as they know it's bound to be overclocked? Dunno where I read that...

If you are going to ket your kit from OcUK then I'd go for the Opty. The stepping they seem to have in stock are clocking very, very well indeed! I got one of the first ones and I dont regret a thing!

I know its £12 more expensive but its worth it. What ya can do it order the sucker, see if its the right stepping and then if it isn't send it back (you'll lose a few bob, but its worth it imo).

Hope this helps dude.
