which of the opteron cpus would be better
an opty 180 denmark core or an opty 185 venus core

i currently have a 939 setup and dont have the cash avialble for full upgrade to either the am2 or am2+ system yet

ive tried to overclock my current x2 4400+ (toledo) cpu without much success best i can get is an extra 200mhz

currently using a foxconn NF4SK8AA-8EKRS
2 gig mushkin xp4000 redline ram (running at 533mhz) due to setting on mobo allowing 250mhz on ram without clocking the cpu up

i did knock the mem timmings down when trying to overclock current cpu but could not get past 220mhz

from what ive read the optys overclock extreamly well and would allow me to get some of the performance im looking for untill i can afford a proper upgrade.

I would like when overclocking to get the FSB around the 250Mhz mark that way i can get my mem running at its optimum 500Mhz
I konw the mem runs at this as it is already doing so without having to overclock the FSB just using the Mem timmings
If i can overclock the Cpu to around the 3 Ghz mark and have the cpu and mem running 1:1 with the mem at the full 500Mhz then i'll be quite happy

My mobo has FSB upto 300mhz in 1 mhz increments
however i have found that with the extra 1 gig mem installed my system will not boot with it running at 500Mhz anymore the max i can set memory spd to seems to be 233Mhz
seems to be an issue ive found before when using 512Mb modules previously crucial ballistix pc4000 modules
so looks like i need to find another set of 1 gig modules to get my 500mhz mem timings

Ive always used AMD and im quite happy with the peformance i normally get with them
to be honest i dont really have use for a quad core just yet most of time is used in gaming with some dvd encoding from time to time.
Im basically looking for just a quick upgrade at present till i can afford a complete system rebuild hopefully 6 - 9 months time
then possibly look into an intel setup for the first time since the orignal pentium cpu

dual core cpu for games is almost a nescsity these days it even helps speed up some of the older single threaded games as well
Most ot the extreamly popular games had patches released that made use of the new dual core cpu's when they first came out
If you are a gamer i would recommend upgrading to a dual core CPU whether it be another AMD CPu or you go for what appears to be the faster C2Duo's

Thanx i just need another opinion to make sure i was making the correct desicion
Means my brain aint quite died and gone too heven then

clarify yourself wayne
as far as ny sig is concerend it shows what i currently have and the fact with my current cpu it's not overclockable however i have managed to overclock my mem which i have seen by a few members of this forumn.( are you suggestiung i should lie )

and as far as compitetors as concerned i ask a legitimate question and supportted it with evidence wether a denmark core opteron was bettere than a venus core opteron at this piont i was unaware the venus core was a single core cpu however i have had further searches wich support the answer which i was given that the venus core opteron is only a single core cpu and not dual core as i was lead to belive by the site i mentioned.
if it makes you happy i can remove the name where the info was found however i was not advertising thier ware'z, i only tried to link to information i had found in regards to a question i had asked the members of this forumn

however if you can advise me of how my sig should appear i will take your information onboard and digeset it as i have others within this forumn
