Ive just started using vista and crysis runs 2fps less then on xp and I have a 3870 card,, the benchmark in crysis is min14fps avg 38 max52. 14fps min is too low cos the game chugs quite abit, so will the new cpu improve my min fps in crysis at all?

Yes. More so at lower res.
I got nearly 10fps in Crysis going from [email protected] to [email protected]. All my games are played at 1360x768.

Depends what res, if high, I say no not much.
I've found Crysis runs significantly better (in-game) moving from 2.4GHz Q6600->3.0GHz Q6600. I'm now on a 3.6GHz E8400 and there is no major improvement over the 3GHz quad. I reckon you'll find the game much smoother with the C2D or a C2Q. I've played at a variety of resolutions from 1024x768 to 3840x1024, but it was noticeable at all.
