Oragne users - delivery reports

On pay monthly.

She said she only turned it on when she started to come to uni cos people were sayin they never got texts so she wanted to make sure.

Orange are the only network to charge you for it. Mind you O2 don't even have proper delivery reports.....

It's been that way on Pay monthly since april 1st 2006 (when the animal tariffs were first launched).

Only anally retentive stalker types use delivery reports, If I get with a Doris that mentions delivery reports it's an Instant sacking.

It's quite cheap really... surely it uses the same amount of resources as a short text message?

but yeah I've never seen the point of delivery reports. I don't think I've ever sent a text that someone hasn't received.

Did anyone else know they cost 1p for each one you recieve?

I've always just had the option turned on in my phone - the one that just says "Delivered to xxxxx" after a few seconds. Never noticed an extra charge. I'm guessing you mean the one where Orange actually text you to confirm the text was delivered?

Actually there was some dicussion about this. The general view is that SMS doesn't cost the networks anything, nor does delivery reports. Make of that what you will.

Because the massive mobile phone network costs nothing to run? Or because per byte tranmission costs are effectively low. Presumably the billing, customer service and future investment costs nothing too...

There is also the subsidy on handsets to reclaim as well.
The cost of call/text messages always has been inflated, to recoup the other costs. But I'll openly admit I don't know enough about Oranges (or any networks) finances to fully understand how they run.
Still, I would argue are being cheeky by charging for delivery reports, but thats an opinion.
