I phoned Orange cs earlier this evening to cancel my contract and transfer my number to a PAYG sim card this all went fine and the guy said to put the new sim card in a leave it on for 24 hours as i should recive the sms to sort all my settings.
Ive put the new sim card in and turned the phone on but all i get is a message saying "SIM card registration failed" and i have no signal or orange logo at the top of my screen is this normal? as i cannot see how i can recive the txt when it appears my phone isnt connecting to the network.

Above problem is sorted now have a new problem.

Someone PUK blocked my sim and orange online area is absolutly useless its slow and i hate needing to use it especially as all im getting when trying to get my PUK code is
"We are sorry but this service is temporarily unavailable while we carry out some essential maintenance.
Please try again later."
Is there another way to get your PUK code online or am i going to have to go through the joys of the phone system where il be placed on hold for half an hour
Sorry for the slight rant tis not a good day :o

Turn the phone off and back on again. That message will show if the sim isn't registered to the network at all, and the phone doesn't recheck when it's left turned on.

What you should find is that when you turn it off/on it'll pick up Orange again and you'll then recieve the sim updates.

If it still gives you the error message, turn it off again and try in a couple of hours (up until the 24 hour period) and it'll come on at some point :)

If the online system isn't working, you'll have to call in, there's no other way around it.

Sorry.

Thank you yet again Dolph i promised to stop asking questions soon :p , just got my mum to phone up as shes the account holder and its all sorted :)

Hey Blitz can I ask you a question. I've just changed to Orange after I got a free 300 txt sim in the post. I bought a 6630 (locked to orange) from *bay and registered my sim. Was told to put my sim in and wait for 4 txt messages and delete each one. Then switch on/off my phone and I will be connected to the Orange network.

Anyway I had the same problem as you - "sim card registration failed", I restarted my phone and everything went well and I had a signal. I then got a message saying something along the lines of - "my user packages have changed, please switch your phone on and off for this to take effect", which I did. I then checked the number orange had given me and rang my phone and it worked. I never got any of the 4 messages I was told I would receive.

Is this what happend to you? I'm just worried I won't get my 300 free txt's a month.

Regards.

The message you recieved telling you your services have been updated and to switch your phone off/on was the message you were waiting for :)

The 6630 only beeps once for a multipart message.

O2 should be fine about it i would have thought, dont get me started on Oranges free txt tarriff though ive put £25 on in the last week and had 3 or 4 msgs that are just random garbage with a string of numbers, which i guess should be the txts telling me about my free allowence but im still being charged and its costing me a fortune :( any ideas before i spend some free time on the phone to orange?

When's your analysis date? The way the free text tarriff works is that your account top-up is added up monthly and the appropriate text bundle applied on the same date each month based on how much you've topped up by the month before. It's not a case of putting £10 on and getting 300 texts straight away.

the text i recived on the 25/5 says i need to top up by £10 by the 24/6 to recive my free texts so does that mean il get them on the 24? but it still doesnt explain the weird messages im gettin from orange il try and get one on the pc and copy it into here

With the texts, you'll recieve them normally on or just after (within 48 hours) of the 25th. It'll add up the total amount you've topped up by and allocate the correct number of texts.

Most common cause of odd texts on a 6630 is the VPS signal (the one that turns the indicator on). If it's not running Orange firmware, or if you have it set to store sms messages on the memory card, rather than the handset, it reads the signal to turn the vps indicator wrongly, and it will show an SMS that looks to have squares and random symbols in there.

cheers for the help as always dolph, looks like its because i store them on the memory card then is there any harm in those messages not being recived properly?
