Orange Internet - Unusable

Orange internet tonight is totally unacceptable, has anyone else had any issues?

Most websites I try to browse just dont load, or half load, or just time out totally. I've tried another router so its no different. Pathetic, I've been with them for little over a week and if this is what they're like every friday night when there's a few extra people online, well... I'm deeply regretting my decision to join this ISP.

It sounds to me like a DNS issue.

Have you tried to ping or tracert the sites that you can't access? I'm going to bet that it'll work just fine and entering in a different DNS server manually will fix your issue.

tried the 4.4.4.2 trick and then nothing would work. At all :\

Another issue is Xbox Live is playing up too. I go to get patches for games and I get error codes, and games just keep not being able to find the internet even though I havent actually had any drop outs. Really weird

Glad I saw this before blaming my PC. I have been with Orange since the freeserve days. Have had a solid 6-7mb connection for ages, yet tonight it seems crippled.

Speedtest still reports that I have the speed, but its taken me over 10 minutes to do this reply. As I am typing this, the smileys still have not loaded !!

Lots of sites saying "page cannot be displayed". Refresh sometimes brings them in, but very slowly.

Laptop and smartphone all the same. Only some websites affected it seems. OC being one of them.

Ah man, its good to know I'm not the only one experiencing it. You always become worried there is something wrong with your equipment or you have a virus or something when you think its only happening to you! Maybe they are just doing some work or something tonight.

I was with Freeserve and then Wannado, before changing to Demon a few years ago.. After I started having fun and games with Demon, I decided to come back (the only reason left Orange/Wannado in the first place was Demon offered faster speeds, nothing to do with bad service). I'm hoping this is just a one off....

Although, I have to ask, do you get intermittent problems all the time? I find about 5-10 times a day I'll click a website and instantly get a 'this site is not available' message.. Then I hit refresh and it loads fine. I've had that every day since rejoining Orange, dont remember ever having it with Demon. Seems pretty shoddy to be honest :/ I hope they clear up their act.

To be fair, I have had virtually no issues with Orange whatsoever. I can only assume it was a network issue at their end.

My 8mb connection slows down a bit around 5-8pm, but other than that, I get a steady, decent connection. I certainly cannot remember ever having no internet at all.

Ping out to 8.8.8.8, if that works, set it as your DNS server.

Changing your DNS server (Assuming that's what you meant with "4.4.4.2 trick") shouldn't just stop everything working.

Once you've changed your DNS server, ping over to a previously non-working website and see if it returns an IP address.

If you're getting the sites IP address but still cannot get on, it's not a DNS issue.

when pinging sites, sometimes it times out, then sometimes it pings. Really weird. I'm so fed up of pressing that damn refresh button after seeing a webpage 'failing to load'.
