Hi,

Since I have started using the free broadband service I have tried connecting to a pc at my parents house which has been setup correctly to allow this.

On my laptop from work it connects fine but when trying this thorugh the Orange connection it fails and doing a "tracert" poinpoints the Livebox as the problem area.

I have tried changing the settings to disable the firewall but still no joy ?

Anyone able to help with this ?

You don't make a lot of sense.

You mean you're trying to connect with VNC/Remote Desktop/SSH/whatever to a machine behind a Livebox, and because the Livebox appears to be blocking ICMP (ie traceroute doesn't see anything behind it), it's the Livebox?

Sounds like you need to forward ports, and you aren't going to be able to directly ping the machines behind the Livebox. You are using the Livebox's WAN IP (ie the public IP Orange gives it), aren't you?

You misunderstand..

Ill clarify.

I have a pc at my parents house that id like to connect to from my home which has the orange broadband service installed (using the livebox).

The machine/router at my parents place has been configuredc correctly as i can connect to it fine from work using my laptop.

When laptop is at home using the orange service it will not connect to the machine at my parents place seemingly something to do with the livebox..

Now the port forwarding would not come into play here as it is an "outgoing" connection not incoming.

Hope this makes sense.

It wasn't hard to.

Any errors, and what are you trying to connect with?
Tried swapping the Livebox for something else?

doing a "tracert" poinpoints the Livebox as the problem area.

So the Livebox is blocking outgoing ICMP?

The only error is that it times out.

I do not have access to another modem so am unable to try an alternate which is a bit of a bummer.

I have no idea if it is blocking outgoing ICMP - how would i check and how can i change ?

Thanks

Try pinging something (jolt.co.uk's as good as any).

So how the hell did "doing a 'tracert' poinpoint the Livebox as the problem area"?

It shouldn't be blocking anything outgoing though, but NAT can break FTP among other things - but you still haven't said what you're trying to connect with.
