Usual story, I'm after a new phone but I'm feeling a little overwhelmed by the plethora of deals out there, so I'd really appreciate any information or advice you think is helpful!
I'm currently on Orange Dolphin 35, 18 months. Expires in September, so I'm within the 3 month upgrade period.
I've decided I'll be upgrading to the HTC Desire.
Sadly the only network that gets reliable reception in college is Orange. I went through a year of being unable to get texts in my room and having to lean out of the window to make calls, and I'm really not willing to risk that again, so I'll have to stay on Orange. This being the case, I figure I'll go for the Desire Black, it just looks so much prettier imo!
Requirements:
400+ minutes
unlimited texts
'unlimited' internet - as much as possible, with the best possible FUP, I expect this is what you're all after in terms of data
I don't mind paying for the handset as long as it means the overall cost of the contract is reasonable.
I'd much prefer an 18 month contract, but if anyone is aware of a truly excellent 24 month contract I'll definitely take a look.
The best I can find online is the following from mobiles.co.uk:
Panther 35 (Upgrade) 18 months
400 minutes, unlimited texts, unlimited internet, £40 handset, £35/month
It looks like the offers for new customers are generally better than the upgrade offers, which seems stingy to me.
Anyway, I was offered the following in phones4u the other day:
Orange, 18 months
500 minutes, unlimited texts, unlimited internet, free handset, £27/month
I'm surprised that I'm getting a better offer in person than online.
So I have the following questions:
How have peoples' dealings with phones4u been? Is it ok to risk it or should I just assume I'm getting scammed and avoid them like the plague?
Can anyone see a better deal around?
I haven't spoken to Orange's retentions department, but I was told in their store that they can't offer better deals than those I'll find on Orange's website, which are generally beaten anyway by the other websites. Has anyone had a good experience with Orange's retentions department for something like this?
Where do people generally sell their old phones online? I'll no longer be needing my current phone, which is an i900 Omnia.

Woah, long post. Thanks for sticking with me to the end, and thanks in advance for your help!
