Has anyone else had an order confirmation email through from Play.com about products they haven't ordered?

I've got the email, no money missing from the bank and Play have no record of the order, so I'm guessing it's spam but I've honestly never seen these emails before?

All they have is my name, no other details.

I've never seen it before, it looks nothing like the Play.com order emails (as I have one in my inbox anyway)

It's just so strange, I've never encountered them before.

I got one this morning which I've just spotted. It's for a webcam and an external drive (at extortionate prices) and the email has my full name in it. There was a link in the email which links to a .zip file to download and there's an .exe file inside it (which I didn't click!) The invoice is held on play-support domain. Just checked my Play account and there's no sign of that order. Looks like they've been hacked into.

I'm on hold on the phone now with them to try and find out what's going on.

Spoke to play and was told that I was the 115th person she had spoken to about it today. We all had the same email with the same order number and that some of the people that had contacted them weren't even play customers. She said that it looked like our email addresses and names had been 'sourced' elsewhere and that they were currently investigating the issue.

Overclockers / Play / Amazon / xbox / ps3 / Steam / iTunes and the Guardian and Blizzard (aside from emailing friends) are the only companies I use my personal email for.

I get very little spam.

I got this aswell, wasn't worred because Play only have my old card details, it's that long since I ordered from there. :)

they did say they had leaked some email address details via a 3rd parthy a few months ago. Those who received the newsletter iirc

That was in March. There was even a thread about it in here. I still have the email:

Dear Customer,

We take privacy and security very seriously and ensure all sensitive customer data is protected. Please be assured this issue has occurred outside of Play.com and no other personal customer information has been involved.

Please be assured we have taken every step to ensure this doesn’t happen again and accept our apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused some of you.

Customer Advice

Please do be vigilant with your email and personal information when using the internet. At Play.com we will never ask you for information such as passwords, bank account details or credit card numbers. work for a credit card company and we received numerous calls today from people who thought they were effected with this who had never shopped at play.

there were no card details disclosed, only the email addresses. They send out realistic order emails with dodgy attachments, in the hope someone will click it and install god knows what to their machine.

But I wouldn't click anything in an email I wasn't expecting, so I still wasn't worried.

I can however see how it would fool a lot of people.
