Hello all, this is probably a really stupid question but I just want to confirm before I do anything.
Basically I have 2 partitions one one disk atm, one running XP(32bit), the other vista(64bit), and then all my music/video/installers on another hdd. I want to do a fresh install on both. I just want to make sure I do things in the right order. I'm pretty sure you're supposed to install XP first then Vista so I will do this.
Firstly, can/should I install xp/vista with my second hdd installed or should I unplug it all, then plug it in after I'm up and running? (it would be easier to keep it on as all my installers/programs are saved on it)
Secondly, when do I format and partition the drive? I'm guessing I back everything up first (done), boot up with the xp disk in the drive, choose to format the whole drive, reboot, partition the drive, reboot, then install xp on the right partition. Is this right or do you do it slightly different? Or should you format, install xp, then partition?
Thirdly, once i'm into the OS, is the following order right in terms of the order to instal things?
chipset -> gfx drivers -> windows update -> rest of apps
One problem I have is that it's a hassle to connected to the router wired, can I install my wireless adapter after the gfx drivers so I can connect this way?
And one final question, last time I had vista installed, windows update was suggesting updates to my graphics card/wireless adapter and a few other things I think (Nvidia Serial ATA rings a bell but i'm not certain). This was after I installed all the latest driver/updates, should I install the updates or should I ignore them?
Sorry for the long post.
Thanks for any advice.
