Hi guys,

Just a quicky. Ordered (one of my Christmas presents) the PowerColor 3870 with Zerotherm cooler and o/c'd standard at 800/2400 [PowerColor website now says 1176Mhz = 2352].

Should I complain, and try to get the actual version I ordered, or not bother? (This version is 775/2252 (1126Mhz)

They sent me AX3870 512MD4-H instead of AX3870 512MD4-PH

They all clock well beyond that anyway, I guess its a little unfair you got the wrong card, but tbh spending extra on a "pre-overclocked" card is like throwing money away IMO.
 
Apparently comes with 0.8ns memory instead of the standard 1.0ns. Does that swing it?

I've just done an RMA anyway, looks like they have done it to a lot of people GRR. Guesing I won't have it it time for Christmas now :(

Still doesn't swing it for me, my two will happily run up to 2700MHz (1350MHz DDR) anyway.

Unlucky on the weeks before xmas RMA though :(
 
Was it a straight clock for you or did you have to do anything to get it do raise the memory? Some peeps have said it won't even budge from 1126, which makes me a bit concerned :(

What are the ref coolers like for noise? Anything like the old loud as hell x1950 coolers when these 3870's are overclocked?

Even if the card you got matched and exceeded the pre-OC'ed card, I would still be annoyed at having paid extra for it! Rather than RMA and not get the other card in time I would demand they refund the difference though, think you could convince them to do that?

Done nothing to mine to get the mem up that high, although I've since done the BIOS mod to get the core past 865.
 
Ironically the standard 370 is about £15 more! Gonna return it I think as its not the card I ordered, and the idea of getting the zerotherm card was that it would be quieter + cooler when overclocking. My wife doesn't want to hear a jet turbine spinning up with me playing games and she's trying to read.

What are you idle and load temps paradigm (with the cooler on sensible speeds and not noisy as hell).

Cooler on default speeds, my cards are currently sat at 39ºc, but I have changed the thermal interface material to be Arctic Ceramique.

Load temps, I've never actually logged, will do tonight when I get in from work.
 
All wrapped up ready to be dropped at the citylink depot. (For once Citylink did ok, although the guy seemed unable to knock on either my neighbours doors do give them the card even though they were both in).

Mainly returning it because in some small way I feel short changed, given that they have seemingly done this to several people already. Bah, "should have gone to overclockers" lol.

Load temps would still be nice to know paradigm :)

So, handed in to Citylink depot on the 13/12/2007. Lets see how long it takes until I actually receive the correct card.

RMA news> Being sent 'something' via a courier, but have no idea what, as the powercolor 3870 pcs version isn't even in stock. I will settle for the plain 3870 if I have to, just hope they don't send me a powercolor 3850 by mistake (the boxes are very similar).

Find out this afternoon hopefully :)

Yeah, just hope they didn't send me an 8800gt, as it won't work in my motherboard without it being flashed to an asus bios lol (I ***seriously*** doubt they will).

How stable have you found the bios mod? And is it the original your using, just doesnt seem to work on my card that well. can post the speeds but will still hang when attempting to run in game at 865+
 
Turned out to be the original card they sent me lol (haven't checked the serial numbers to check if it is the exact card though).

Will have to accept this card though as it is a Christmas Pressie from my wife, and meant I won't be able to play Crysis or any of the Orange box games 'decently' without it. Oh well, at least it was cheap, since 3870 prices have gone up substantially since I purchased it.

Will let you guys know how I get on with it overclocking wise either Christmas Day or Boxing Day (more likely as wife works on boxing day).
