I recently ordered a Iiyama 2201 B1, but recieved a B2. Once my order had been processed I had changed my mind, so I thought it would be a good idea to use their mistake as a reason to return. I had read reviews stating that the colour wasn't great. As im a graphic designer I need decent colour, but I also want to play games.

I have been looking at some Dell's, are they good enough for my needs?

Cheers!

No 22 incher (apart from the Lenovo l220x) will do if you are doing heavy graphics work as they are all TN based panels (6-bit only = 262,143 colours with dithering to make up the rest).

The Dell 24" currently being sold (2408 WFP) isn't great (I sent mine back after a couple of days I was that unimpressed with it). I'm currently using a Hazro HZ24WS which is an IPS based screen (as used in Apple Cinema Displays and high-end NEC ones) and am very pleased. Yes, there are currently issues (sleep not working in Vista and lack of HDCP), but overall it's a great monitor, and when I bought it much cheaper than the 24" Dell.

Surely 22" monitors aren't all bad for graphics? I know that this Iiyama is beacuse of it is a Tn with 2ms response.

Im not neccesarily looking for a TN with a 2ms response, just a monitor with good colour and lesser response, maybe 5ms?

Thanks.

Did you try the Iiyama and not like the colour or did you assume its bad from reviews?

Just wondering myself as I am thinking of buying one too but still hesitating. Ignorance was bliss it seems as I was going to go for a samsung one but then read more and more reviews and now ended up with the current complications of input lag, TN panels and their bad colours, variable brightness on the one screen, different panels in the one LCD model where some are good and some are very bad, etc etc

in short if you didnt look at the monitor colour yourself then more fool you. I have the e2201w-b1 and for a tn panel the colour is great - no input lag.

Fortunately, with the Iiyama by changing brightness to 79, contrast to 30, red to 94, green to 91 and blue to 98 ; the average falls to 3.6 and with a significant improvement to the naked eye. This means the grade goes from a C+ to a B- which is much better.

i have a b1 & my mate opposite has a b2 tbh i cant tell the difference :)

ALL 22" LCD monitors use the TN panel the iiyama is a samsung panel guaranteed, not even the samsung screens can promise that....

Wrong I'm afraid, the Lenovo l220x uses a Samsung S-PVA panel running at 1920x1200 (same res as 24" monitors). That's your best bet if you want the 22" form-factor but want the best viewing angles, colour repro (although you'll need a colorimeter, it's a wide-gamut and will need proper calibration like all medium to pro screens).

I stand corrected then :) although tbh everyone here says all 22" are tn panels! TBH if he wants Va panel he should order the OCUK 24" panel for £220 odd.

but other than the viewing of the TN ive had no problems with it. almost looks as good as my Samsung 26" S-PVA lcd TV.

My new PLE2403WS looks superb! Following a mispick blunder and then a refund from another company (PLE2201W-B2 instead of B1), I decided that 24" was worth the gamble for full HD, despite my concerns of ghosting and input lag in games (rfactor and UT3, must try the new patch for TMU too for its great speed and colour vibrancy).

Well, considering I was buying whilst relying on reviews, opening it just to find out for myself after reading reviews in magazines of it's apparent colour inaccuarcy would have been pretty stupid, no?

In short No :)

No monitor has perfect colour out of the box, the review means out of the box the colour isnt the best it can be. The above settings bring it to being as good the other monitors without the use of a calibration tool.

I think you should stop reading about things you do not know as fact, such as oh the colour isnt as good, as that can be misleading. The colour review in the above online review says after the tweaks its colour great, why not now listen to that???? I read about 4 details reviews on the E2201W which all said its a great monitor. If you look at the review on the colour of other monitors they say the same thing, innacurate^^ to my knowledge no monitor mainstream ships with perfect colour representation.

NO monitors default colours are the best they can be, for that screen calibration with a huey or spider is required - then its never perfect.

**Reviews are meant to give you a general idea of a product different reviews of the same product can vary greatly what you look for is a whole bunch of reviews that all pretty much say its great, then buy it :)**
