Yo,

Basically after a night of clicking with OSX after 2 years lol I have ordered a mac mini to compliment my macbook.

Now, I don't have enough desk space for two keyboards as I still need my windows games machine, for well Arma2 :p

So, I can either buy a usb switch box for £25 I saw in my local competitors shop, or I can buy the £25 apple wired keyboard and rest it on top of my centre speaker of my 5.1 when not in use, then plug my G5 mouse into what ever computer I am using.

Seems a faf, but I will have a proper apple keyboard.

The Apple blutooth one is £50  and I still would need to buy a blutooth mouse!

The blutooth apple KB would be nice as I can store it in my cupboard when not in use, but it's like £50, for a keyboard :/

depends if you like tiny weeny keys, or if you have large fingers like me, you might be suited to the G15/G11 ect?

I personally prefer the feel of the G11, And the looks. The Ally keyboard is a bit to sexy for me!

Go for a KVM if you don't use both PC's at the same time!

Yeh I don't use them at the same time, well not in the sense of literally at the same time as I would need to more hands :p

The only annoyance with my windows keyboard is that the " and @ and £ are all wrong.

Also I get confused which one of ctrl, windows button and alt are the apple keyboard equivalnce hehe..

Window key is the Apple key / CMD, Ctrl is as normal and Alt is the Option key.

Obvious question but do you actually need a keyboard for the mini at all? It depends what you're using it for.

My mini is a server for AV/Storage and as such I don't bother with a screen an keyboard. I use VNC to connect to it? Rarely need to plug into it physically.

Yeh I will need a keyboard and mouse as it's going to be my office, internet, e-mail, video and photo editor.

I used to use a Windows KB with my old Mac Mini it was constantly irritating with keys in the wrong place, especially for UK layouts. I would say get the Mac Keyboard if you can afford it, there are refurb ones on their website which are usually £10-15 cheaper.

I just invested in a Logitech Dinovo Mac Edition Keyboard. I owned the original mac keyboard and TOTALLY recommend you get the Dinovo Mac keyboard. Apple just don't know how to make good keyboards or mice IMHO.

It's double the price

Think I'm gonna buy a wired apple keyboard, it's £25. Seen photo's of people plugging USB dongles in the side of it for their mice. This is great because I already have a wireless USB adapter mouse lying around :D

I really like the Apple wired keyboard, the size suits and I find it's very comfortable to type on. Before this one I insisted on 'natural' keyboards but I can use this easily.

If they did a wireless version with a full numeric keypad I'd buy one but they don't so I have to go wired.

The keys on the apple keyboard just don't feel right IMHO. Also, the caps lock key needed to be pressed down hard for it to activate...same with my friend's keyboard. Really glad I got rid of it

  • Wireless + full numeric keypad
  • 3 year battery life claimed - astonishing - I'll be amazed even if it lasts 6 months!:o
  • Black + Aluminium matches the new mac mini better
  • I'm actually typing a lot lot faster on the Dinovo Mac :)

Just my 2 cents.

It's not a case of pressing it hard, you have to hold it for a fraction of a second. That's done by design to avoid accidental activation of caps lock.

I see it now, but IMHO it's ridiculous....I've never had any issues of accidentally activating caps lock. Hell, why not apply it to all keys? :)

EDIT - just googling, seems like this 'feature' has been around since 2007... http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1169783

It's just because the keys are so low profile it made sense to make it harder to accidentally hit it.

And you have to hold it for just the tiniest fraction longer than a normal key.
