After 4 years with a tired AMD Athlon XP 2500+ 1GB of value ram, 9800 pro and 200gb hard drive. I thought it was time to upgrade. i recently re discovered gaming thanks to Company Of Heros (awesome) so that was the basis of this spec i had about 700 to spend and came up with this

Intel Core 2 DUO E6300 "LGA775 Allendale" 1.86GHz (1066FSB) - OEM
Gigabyte GA_965P_DS4 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
Crucial 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2 PC2-5300C3 667MHz Tenth Anniversary Dual Channel Kit (TY2KIT12864AA663)
Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro CPU Cooler (Socket 775)
Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 320GB ST3320620AS SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM x2
Sapphire ATI Radeon X1950 Pro 256MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail

Total £724.83

I of course will be overclocking this when it arrives. I think its safe to say its a step up from my previous rig ;)

I have been reading a few specs on this site and everyone seems to keep coming up with that processor in their spec.

I have been out of the hardware loop for well over a year but whats the deal with picking up a 1.86 processor? am fairly sure that its a step down from the processors around a year ago, am i missing something super major with this core duo lark?

Anyone point me in the direction of some comparisons or reviews of the current high end processors maybe?

Cheers

Yeah, slow is the new fast!!!
Everyone wants a slow cpu...they cant make them fast enough!
Its cooler and the fans can run quieter!!!!

Ok, then, seriously, have a look HERE

Thanks mate, useful link having a good read :)

Also consider this my current AMD Althon XP 2500+ @ 1.82GHz gets a slow 1minute 1 second in super pi 1M calculation where as a stock E6300 get about 30 seconds or so. technology as moved on
