Ordered my shuttle…….. build advice please

Ok it’s been a good 4 years since I built a shuttle. Back in the days of ide and floppy drives.

I have ordered a SN68PTG5 and just have a few questions.

1. Do I need any drivers or have to set the bios up differently from when I would have last built a pc using IDE.

2. I have orderer a duel core AMD 5000, what is the correct FSB speed for that processor or will the bios pick it up, on my last build I had to change the FSB from 100 to 166

3. is it still the common process to add the themal paste to the core or do we cover the whole cpu these days

4. Anything else I need to know?

1) I presume you're asking about this with relation to using SATA. The answer is probably no, as I'm guessing in a shuttle you wont be using a RAID setup. However you may need to change a BIOS setting (SATA to IDE legacy mode I think) if the drives are not picked up automatically.

2) Stock FSB should be picked up automatically by the BIOS. You should only need to change it if you're overclocking.

3) A good guide to applying thermal paste can be found here on the Arctic Silver website.

4) Never pet a burning dog.

thanks mate, yeah no raid and using all sata stuff, so i guess it should pick it up then, and thanks for the link - looking now!

thanks for the tip on the dog, i don't own one, but will be sure to check for flames when out walking
