Ordered wrong Replace MB or RAM?

Made error when ordering was going with DDR4 version because I was rushing on my phone and did not read clearly that the MB was infact only DDR5 Should I return this board for the DDR4 version as planned https://www.overclockers.co.uk/asus...-lga-1700-ddr5-atx-motherboard-mb-6gy-as.html Pairing with 32 GB 3600Mhz DDR4 or just send the RAM back for a DDR5 set. Thing is if I do, which kit would give me better performance since I notice the timings are a lot worse and negates a lot of the raw speed increases?

If I were you, I'd send the whole lot back and get the MSI Z690-A Wifi, saving you £100.

its your call... how long do you want the system to last? if i was hoping for over 5 years id be going ddr5.
if your the type of person that cant site on a system for more that 12 months to 2 years go ddr4 because of the savings you make now


also just for giggles, why that board? there is a lot of just as good board for about £100 less

DDR5 is a significant upgrade over DDR4 but it comes at a much higher price.

Sent your motherboard back and get the DDR4 version.

In terms of technology and the way it has been designed, it's a significant upgrade.

The fact that the first gen is slightly faster than top of the range DDR4 doesn't mean it isn't well designed tech. Buildzoid has gone into length as to why DDR5 is better.

I'm excited for the next gen of DDR5 as it should be a good bit faster as it matures.

Yes, hence why I also said send the motherboard back and stick with DDR4 for now.

I have stocked up on quality DDR4 as people get all hyped up about DDR5 and sell theirs. I'm cheap and not willing to pay early adopter money.

Once DDR5 matures and we see speeds of 7000+ (some DDR5 RAM has been clocked as high as 10ghz), we will see a significant improvement.

No point being an early adopter of DDR 5.
It'll be the same as what happens with all ram - when you want to upgrade the platform in the next few year, the current DDR 5 will be "too slow" and the recommendation at that time will still be to "upgrade to faster DDR5 ram"
If you have decent DDR4 ram now, just stick with a DDR4 board and then upgrade the CPU/board/ram fully in a few years time

When I tried a DDR5 motherboard, I was able to get a £199 32GB B Grade Corsair 5600 which worked great. Too bad the ASUs board was bad. Decided to keep the MSI Tomahawk Z690 DDR4 and 32GB 8Pack 3600. Only able to notice difference in benchmarks. The tomahawk I got for 199 shopping around. Very solid blacked out motherboard. Love it.
