Have finally decided to order an xbox 360.

Im buying:

  • Xbox 360 Premium
  • PGR3
  • Ghost Recon
  • Extra Wireless Controller
  • Wireless controller battery and charge kit

Im buying it all for £400 with free delivery.

Is this a reasonably good deal, i found one place that sold 2 games with the premium for like £320 but it was prey and oblivion, not graw and pgr3 which is what i really want in a bundle.

I'd not a *bad* deal, but I think you can probably do a lot better, but I've no idea personally who you can turn to to get that deal, and they'd probably be a competitor. I think some retailers will have decent mix + match offers instore also.

You'll want to make sure you have the 2 rechargable batteries for the controllers, so you'll need to buy:
1x Play & Charge Kit (Comes with charger cable + 1 rechargable Battery)
1x Official Xbox 360 Rechargable Battery

If i was going to get a 360 now i have to try 2nd hand. There are some amazing deals to be had. E.g just seen a premium pack with several face plates, 2 wireless controllers and 5 top games for £445.

i'd go second hand...i did...and the previous owner might not format the HDD ;)

its cheaper and better value to buy preowned imo. :)

hmm maybe so but i want to buy a new one.

one question, do i have to use the 360 headset or can i use other ones eg pc ones with it. If so would it be possible to use a surround sound headset (Speedlink medusa)

If you do go 2nd hand you can get some great deals.
I managed to get a 360, HDD, memory card, 2 wired and 1 wireless controller, play and charge kit, 5 games for around £320ish, cant remember exactly

yer my mate found this. He was well chuffed. Had loads of arcade games, a lot of the downloadable PGR3 cars, 7 or 8 extra themes and at least 40 gamerpics. I added a few of the items up on marketplace and they came in at a fair price - which he in fact got for free, dam him :)

You can't easily use just any headset, the 360 headset is used for only gamechat and voice, so all the sounds come out the speakers bar the voices of other players (though can vary between games). It uses the style of plug as a hands free kit on phones do I believe, so there are other options available.

I think with the right 3.5mm to 2mm adapters you'd be able to use a normal headset with it though.

For gaming and talking this is going to be tricky, it can be done but it's a very blue-peter job.

I have a similar setup.

Speedlink Medusa surround headphones plugged into the PC with the optical out of the Xbox360 going into the Optical In of my PC/Line In. That covers the sound.

As for the mic (because the Xbox360 doesn't have a direct microphone-in) and in the rare occasions I use a mic WITH my headphones, then a standard mobile phone ear-piece/mic plugged into the 360 controller does the job.

The cable is thin enough to pass between the headphone and thus allow the earpiece AND headphone to be wore at once, but of course does muffle the sound in one ear.

Like I said, can be done, but only if you're desperate for this.

Amen to that. You're like the silent assasin when playing usually. Was weird to hear you talk when we were racing yesterday ;) Hope you're going to use that mic more from now on......

well im not buying second hand, want a new one. all i wanna know is about the headset now

Sorry if this is stating the bleeding obvious but you are aware the Premium comes with a headset?

Plus imo Prey and Oblivion are both pretty good games. (I loved both) and you could pick up PGR3 / GRAW cheap 2nd hand.

yeh i know it comes with a headset, but from the look of the picture i dont reckon you can use it instead of speakers eg late at night u just use xbox headset. if so then thats good.

If it wasnt too much trouble, i would have preferred to use my medusa headset as they are pretty good.

Anyway, ive ordered it now so cant buy 2nd hand. Thanks J for your answer. I will have my pc right next to my 360 so i may try your approach.

As mentioned a few times already in this thread, its not a "bad" deal, but It hink that you could probablly get a better one. Keep an eye on shops like game or gamestation too, sometimes they do very good bundle deals.

The same can also be said for independant retailers, who are usually more flexible with what they will bundle and so on.

Hope you get as much fun out of your 360 as many of us have here. PGR3 and GRAW are both cracking games with great longevity.

If you need any opinions on what other games tickle our collective fancies just whistle.

(Mine are Chromehounds, PGR3, COD2, Oblivion, Burnout: Revenge, Hitman: Bloodmoney, GRAW, Kameo and Condemned with Dead Rising, Enchanted Arms on my imminent to get list)
