Hello everyone!

Iv been playing games for a while now on 17"/19" monitors and they are great for fps etc. But now im only playing MMO's i want to invest in getting myself a new 22" wide.

Iv been looking at the samsung/lg models (dont really wanna get a dell)

now iv been looking at the samsung (Samsung SM-226BW) which looks really nice. but was wondering if it would be worth spending alittle more and get the Samsung SM-245B?

Also my brother is going to be buying a 22" aswell, but im alittle worried about his graphics card, iv been sitting here at work trying to remember the model, its something like ati 8200, something around that area. Now my worry is if he will be able to display the correct res? and what kind of performance hit would u get in wow? At the moment hes playing on a 17" tft on max details and it seems to be fine..

Well i imagine your post will quite likely start up the whole 226bw vs dell debate again! :D

Unless your playing fast paced games, you probably want to go for one of the more expensive panel types in an ideal world such as the 2407wfp and other expensive 24" variants. The other alternative you suggested (SM-245B) would be maybe a little wasteful over the slightly more expensive dell 2407wfp that gibbo has on offer @ £400 ish! every other week!! ( but never the 2707!! :p ) which would feel massively higher quality. People might suggest on here the dell 20" s-ips panel but to me, 20" is soooo small compared to the 22"'s (even if its a really great colourful screen with very good viewing angles) so i'd really be reluctant to make that move in year 2008.

I'd say a 226bw is a better idea than SM-245B personally but you might really want to save up for the 2407wfp and have a screen with massive "wow factor" as it'd be ideal for the way you say you'd use it.

Yep..i babble on too much!! :p

if your feeling lucky then get the 226bw. i cant see any reason to get the lg as ive read it also suffers from poor calibration at times...besides u may end up with a S panel sammy and it does look a lot cooler.

ok is there anyway that i can make sure that i get the 'good' models? i hear some are better than others?

My brother was interested in the LG L226WTQ, which you say isnt that great? If so then ill just tell him to get the Samsung SM-226BW with me then?

only reason was because its silver and looks good, same kinda rules apply tho so hes just playing wow and doesnt want to spend more than £240-50.

thanks for your help guys.

The samsung if its a pure gaming point of view you have.I have a A panel and my good friend a CMO and the colours until messed with are poor on them all but the S panel and they are not about any more tbh.But if you want a fast panel for fast paced fps then its the one to get.VA are not so bad and some make out
But the TN panels dont have the depth in colour as others but all 22" are TN's.Cod2 UT2004 Cod1 UO CCS F.E.A.R all run nice can even handle the 500-700 odd fps i get from running cod2 in dx7 with the prettys turned down.My dell 20" cant handle that.

PS. great site to check out lcd's http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/ .Dont beleave all the hype about the panel lotto indeed some was better than others but how much after reading a lot on this not much m8.

well if u know somebody who works in a store u could always take it back if u weren't happy with it. tbh its the only reason i took the lottery and shifted away from crt.

ive seen pictures of some of the 226bw's across the net and they are a joke....clearly a blue dominance across the screen. i certainly wouldnt be happy with a panel like that and would have taken it back or sold it. there is a lot of difference from the photo's ive seen. websites are sometimes full of crap tbh.

Spot on but its a calibration problem A's CMO and the newer one 4get the panel name all have this problem but after messing my A panel and my friends CMO i cant tell one from the other. To be fair never put them side by side but i have gamed on his.It is very sad that there are so many panels in these lcd's i agree. Some people did not even turn them on and sent them back due to the panel type then slaged them from pic's on the net from un calibrated lcd zoomed right in so you can see the pixels who sits so close to a 22" lcd not me.More than happy.like every one with this lcd sure i would have liked a S panel for braging rights but this lcd it more than i wanted coming from a 19crt.And like i said FOR gaming. My dell 20" is better for everything else tbh.

Get a 20" widescreen sitting here with a 226bw which is going back it is woeful, stuck pixels dreadful viewing angles just shift my head half an inch and i cant see the top half of the pitch in pes6 lmao, not to mention the annoying screen tearing also it looks concave stretched and forced.Go for the dell 2007wfp if you really have to get a tft barring that the 24" dell 2407.People who recommend tn film panels probably never seen a crt in their life so don't notice the difference. My advice remains buy a crt or wait for new tech.

I will not say its not all true. But i have pes6 on xbox 360 and pc play both on the 226bw. And moving one inch and you cant see the top of the pitch LoL i call lies on that one just that one.And tbh m8 i dont think any lcd on the market would make you happy moving from a crt to lcd for gaming. Not 100% but is this not like the 2nd you sent back the S panel is no better gaming wise its the colours not responds time that has been in question and the back light bleed i may be wrong but the reviews i have read said fps/gaming wise the 3 panels are real close CMO being the worsed JUST.
Anything other than native 1650x1050 does look abit naff also.

I have stadium server sometimes the top half already has a shadow i am not lying honestly i can't see the players in that area top of my head is about half way up the screen if i lower my view that is what happens the top half is just a dark shadow.Just leaning back in my chair changes the picture quality dramatically.

why didnt u go for the new sammy 2232 or what ever its called?
u know they like to bait so send out the best panels first.

No idea was curious i guess as samsung stated as of june 07 all are S mine is aug07 and no way an S only cost me postage to have a play around so not bothered.
