Good evening folks....it's been a while since I was on here!!

Anyway, I have been conversing with Sam from OCuk (very helpful and prompt replies by the way :)) however, considering I have so many bloody queries probably best to pickle the heads of some other guys on here......if you don't mind!! :D

I have pretty much settled on buying the i5 prebuilt machine but my queries really centre around the ram and gfx card.

As I will be using the machine for general activities and also as a DAW (digital audio workstation) I was wanting to up the ram to at least 8gb........however, Sam has said that because of the overclock this couldn't be done.

My problem is I also want the processor to be as powerful as possible. Is there a way around this or which would people recommend as a general consensus if I am wanting to run music software on the PC. RAM or Overclock or both (if possible!!)?

As for the graphics card I really like the look of the ATi5850 but considering the PC will primarily be used for PES 11 I think this may be overkill and the ATi5770 would suffice??

I hope to connect it to a LG 42LD690 and I am presuming I will be able to get the full PC resolution on this TV?

If anyone can give any advice I'd really appreciate it as I am starting to get on my own nerves..........never mind Sam at OCuk who has been getting his ear bent with queries!! :D

Cheers
Dee

Many thanks lads, I appreciate all the advice. Initially I was looking at the i7 and then thought with an i5 overclocked that would suffice. But with the ram still being an issue (Sam recommended NO overclock on the i5 and 8gb ram due to the music requirements) I may considering the i7 again as the extra 2gb ram and processor power will be nice.....just don't tell the Mrs as getting this, that TV and a PS3 at the same time means I'll have to continue to use my charm on her!! :D

As for the gfx card, is the GTX460 a much better card than the 5770? For £20 more that is no problem but I was worried that the GTX range might run hotter than the ATI and with the overclock things might get a bit hot!!

ps: I forgot about posting the link - I've removed it now :) I have let myself get out of the loop a bit with current tech, hence the numerous questions. So many thanks to everyone for helping me out :)

pps: Andi - I forgot to answer your point about a self build. I am savvy enough when it comes to PCs and I have been talking about building one for ages.....however, I am a bit nervous due to the money involved and on this occasion I think it would be best for me to pay the bit extra and have the pros at OCuk do it for me. I will try it in the future though.......at some stage!! :)

I've ordered  :D

I'm all biz :p

I decided to not go OTT but I still think I have a nice system for the money.

I went with the "onyx" so I have an overclocked i7 with 6gb ram.....and I also went for the GTX460 768mb because of the current price drop (£99!!).

I'm sure it'll play PES 11 OK :D

The processor and RAM should be nice for my music applications too.

Thanks for all the help above and hopefully everything goes fine with the delivery.

Cycrow - exactly mate. Because of the need for RAM due to some of my music applications if I find myself needing more than the 6gb I can always "un"overclock (I think I'm a technical genius now :D) and add more RAM.

I'm delighted with what I've settled on. I was looking at the i5 and the more expensive i7 "viper" but I think the former was a bit overpriced and the latter a bit too much. I think I have a nice balance with the "onyx" and the fact that I have an i7, 6gb ram and a decent gfx card for £913 delivered to Ireland, pre built is a nice compromise.

In the future I will definitely look in to building my own and I intend to dismantle 2 older computers I have and have a mess around with them at some stage but at this moment in time when I just want a good PC to do what it says with no hassle this prebuilt system is perfect for me. While the £££ may be a fair bit higher than if I was building myself I don't mind paying it considering I'm getting the components and the pro's at OCuk to build it for me.

Happy days :)

wow.you were able to put on that much charm that your missus has let you order all that stuff???? can you drop by here for an hour and charm my missus for me.i aint getting anywhere

If she has a pulse and a nice pair of jugs it will be a pleasure :) I will also do it free of charge :D

save urself the money gettin a ps3 just use the pc man and get drivers for the dualshock 3 controller

I'm gonna hold off, initially at least. I will be playing PES 11 on the 360 so not sure to just get a wired controller for the PC or go for the PS pad. When I was a PES addict in the last generation (up to PES6) I used my PS2 pad on the PC........another decision that will probably take me ages to work out :D

PES on the PC is the ultimate mate. I am a long term member of the PES community and I also have been a huge critic of the past 3 releases this generation. I played PES on the PC up until 6 and it really is immense.

PES 11 is shaping up to be brilliant (I was a beta tester) and the final code will certainly be the best PES this generation - possibly back to the glory days.

The PC platform allows the community to really go to town with the option files and all sorts of madness will be released on the likes of evo web. The PS3 does OK with option files - and with data transfer now easier with the USB update on the 360 that platform will also be well catered for.

No doubt however that the ultimate way to play a good PES game is via the PC.

Good job with your PC too mate. The i7 seems to be a great CPU and I'm sure we'll both get a lot of fun with PES and our music making too :)

Good luck mate
