Ordering from within the EU

Am I right in saying if I order goods (excl. tobacco & alcohol) from within any EU country, I do not have to pay any tax or excise when they enter the UK?

If so, are there any exceptions to this?

You don't pay for tobacco when you bring it in from another EU country, but I don't know how it works if you order stuff.
