Hi Motors

Apologies for asking again, there was a thread on this subject a few months ago but my forum search skills are evidently lacking.

Can someone suggest a reputable online reg plate manufacturer? I'm driving into Europe and, seeing as my number plates are tatty, I was thinking of getting some new plates with the union jack on the side to avoid messing around with UK stickers.

Thanks

I got mine from number1plates with the UK badge, ready for my summer road trip to Europe.

You will need to send scans of your driving licence and V5. DVLA require any registered plate supplier to check these docs to produce the plates.

I ordered some new plates from these guys just last week. Sent copies of the docs straight away, they confirmed receipt and I think the plates were delivered within 2 days.

Thanks for the replies. On proplates I couldn't find a badge with a plain rectangular union jack, there was just one in the shape of the UK mainland. On number1plates the union jack is there.

Does anyone know if there is a noticeable difference between standard and premium acrylic, apart from the price?

If you mean on number1plates, they have standard ABS or premium acrylic, two different materails and plates.

The standard ABS is the numbers and letters stuck on the face of some ABS backing.
The premium acrylic has the numbers and letters stuck to the back of clear acrylic. It gives a nicer finish and better protection imo.

You can use the close-up link on number1plates to see the different types.

It is there on proplates, I’ve just scrolled through and found them, they do have a LOT of other emblems first though.

I just had a set of new plates delivered today for the Z4 as my old front one was a bit shabby. I ordered them online from:-

https://www.platesforcars.co.uk/

Brilliant service, easy to use and comprehensive online designer, quick delivery and very well packaged. Chuffed and would use them again.

These aren’t registered with dvla. They are based in Ireland. Pedantic police could say they are not road legal as the company and postcode details shown are not a dvla registered company. It’s unlikely, but not impossible. They really shouldn’t advertise as being road legal.

There's nothing that says the maker has to be registered with the DVLA. I had a set from them on my last car for 5 years and it had the BSAU, maker name and postcode. It's all you need.

Page 2 of that guide starts with:

You can only get a number plate made up from a registered number plate supplier.

Haha typically intuitive government websites for you, list the rules and then hide that behind a section for getting them made up.

No issues with mine but yeah, that's a bit cheeky I suppose.

You have to really annoy the MOT tester to make them look up where the plates were made :D
