US: Origin - 2018 TV series.

Search didn't come back with anything but can see there a thread in the main. This can be removed if required.

watched the first episode last night, it was a lot better than I was expecting - will be going back in for some more tonight :)

I watched the first episode last night and it seems pretty good, will have a look at another episode tonight

Just finished it and imo it was worth a watch. A few suspect moments but it keeps you guessing all the way. The ships menu system and lighting effects reminded me of dead space.

Will give it a go. I do like like my scifi :)

I enjoyed it, it managed to keep me engaged and I think at one point or another I must have guessed every character was infected - D'oh! :D

but a few dodgy moments and comical decisions.

Bit of an understatement really - some of the things people do after certain events just make no sense at all. Visually generally pretty impressive though and the acting and story mostly works even though highly varied in quality.

Sadly suffers from what an increasing number of movies and TV shows seem to be plagued with - the writers couldn't be bothered to spend 2 seconds working things so as to be atleast somewhat plausible as they went along just jumps from one cheap and easy contrivance to another to keep it moving along - could have been a LOT better given the quality of some of it.

Shame in the way they went the horror / forced suspense route with this one and some of the writing is just plain lazy/dodgy - there was a lot of potential not tapped into with this one going for a more slow boiling pace in the style of Westworld, etc.

Liked it, yeah not the best CGI and some questionable storyline and plots but it did entertain and wrap up well at the end and more then enough to want me coming back for season 2.

We also now have syfys Night Flyers which is horror in outer space so its quite similar.

and wrap up well at the end

One thing I didn't think it conveyed very well - it kind of leaves you thinking that Shun took pity on the alien and/or spared it out of some connection to the person whose body it now inhabits - but it isn't really that at all - Shun sees the parallels with his own life* and trying to be more than the monster you've [not intentionally] become and killing it would be like accepting there was no hope for him either.

It is certainly an interesting twist on the ending and refreshing to see something different in the wrap up even if it isn't some massive plot twist.

* Again not very well conveyed but the alien has seemingly lost its own "brother" or a close approximation of that - the part where "Lana" before the leap into the airlock talks about the lake and Sam is as much someone else's memory as a reflection of its own experience.

That got poor reviews, anyone here watched it?

I thought it was a decent start, the CGI is much better, acting decent but the storyline still needs more time to mature and improve on. It has not received the best reviews but as with anything you have the good and the bad its worth a shot given how limited scifi shows we get due to budget.

good point with the brother part, I thought it she was just using the diary brother discussion as a replacement for having no memories at all.
Will be interesting to see where it goes next if it gets renewed.

I think the first couple of episodes do a disservice to the series - especially people are quite annoying and do things that don't seem believable in the opening stages while later on there is much less of that.

There are a lot of underlying themes in respect to tabula rasa carried throughout that are easily missed that I think diminishes the impression of the series as well for a lot of people - I just happened to catch onto the meaning of a few aspects more by chance than any particular intellectual endeavour which allowed me to see more of what the writers were doing at a more subtle level which makes it a much more interesting series than I first thought.

It is quite subtle and I'm not sure if intentional or not but as she is struggling to put those words together about supposed childhood memories she (it) looks wistfully over towards the damaged bit where the aliens assumedly first entered the ship which I think is supposed to be a reflection on that it and its sibling would have had some kind of shared development together - I'm not sure if the parasites are actually developed enough to have real awareness of living/developing or however it works together before inhabiting a host however

I'm surprised how many people the underlying themes, etc. in this show has gone clear over the heads of - even some established Online/YouTube reviewers who are usually really good at breaking down the plot and explaining the endings, etc. are way off on this one.

Origin is far better then syfys nightflyers new scifi series, despite it not having the budget or CGI level of nightflyers.

But if you are totally bored you can give nightflyers a shot its not too bad but much preferred the storyline, charactors of Origin.
