Is this so even if you buy it on DVD ?Yes
No orign, no BF3.

I think your missing the point.
No the point is people up in arms about something so trivial, how many times do you read the terms and conditions when installing any other client or game, not many i bet.

As I said your missing the point, tho granted there may be some people who are purely steam fanboys and missing out for that reason, in the main tho this isn't the reason.
What I find weirder is all the people defending it said:They are probably affiliated in some way to EA, EA Dice,Digital River,or the aforementioned`s PR or Marketing departments.
Either that or they genuinely don't have a problem with companies tracking their every move to maximize their coinage while continually pumping out unfinished and unfit for purpose Products that consistantly fail to live up to the hype that precedes them.
Each to their own.

My only problem with it is the whole Origin ID debacle. It seems that all my EA persona nicknames are "reserved" and so are preventing me from changing my master Origin ID to them. Rather annoying due to the fact BF3 forces your soldier name to your Origin ID...
I don't need 2 gaming content platforms on my PC, I'll stick with Steam.
The problem most people have with Origin is that as part of the EULA you agree to let EA scan your hard drive and upload findings to their servers, they then have the right to sell on this information,
There is no opt out and if you disagree you can't install origin which then means you can't play BF3
EA EULA said:In addition to information that you give EA directly, EA collects information for purposes of improving our products and services, providing services to you, facilitating the provision of software updates, dynamically served content and product support as well as communicating with you. The information that EA collects includes technical and related information that identifies your computer (including the Internet Protocol Address) and operating system, as well as information about your Application usage (including but not limited to successful installation and/or removal), software, software usage and peripheral hardware.

Steam doesn't sell every game though. You can't blame a big company like EA wanting their own distribution platform and not have to pay valve a percentage of every sale. Oh well, your loss I guess.
Interesting. I can't say that level of invasion bothers me though. Kinda like some people's objections to a Tesco club card; I really don't care that my shopping habits are logged.
