Origin offline mode.. almost useless?

Please advise me if I am misunderstanding.

Internet connection drops owing to maintenance in the area by ISP.

I try to launch FIFA (First E.A game I have purchased in years owing to my dislike for the company and its practices), this in turn launches Origin, Origin then REFUSES to do anything until I login. slight problem as I am "offline".

Steam allowed me to login to "offline mode" using last known login details and allowed me to play.

Origins offline mode only works when Origin is logged in to begin with before you are offline? Is this correct?

Yeah unlike steam you have to be logged into origin client to then use offline mode to the. Play your games.

Workaround for this is to use your mobile to quickly connect and log in to origin client and then disconnect the phone.
