Basically it's to do with the T&C's:

You agree that EA may collect, use, store and transmit technical and related information that identifies your computer (including the Internet Protocol Address), operating system, Application usage (including but not limited to successful installation and/or removal), software, software usage and peripheral hardware, that may be gathered periodically to facilitate the provision of software updates, dynamically served content, product support and other services to you, including online services. EA may also use this information combined with personal information for marketing purposes and to improve our products and services. We may also share that data with our third party service providers in a form that does not personally identify you. IF YOU DO NOT WANT EA TO COLLECT, USE, STORE, TRANSMIT OR DISPLAY THE DATA DESCRIBED IN THIS SECTION, PLEASE DO NOT INSTALL OR USE THE APPLICATION.

Tbh that sort of info on Origin desrves its own thread/topic.

Agreed.

The host site is getting large amounts of traffic so the link may/may not work at this time.

So, usual T&C guff not to worry about... OR.. are E.A upto their usual tricks?

They can track applications, usage of applications and hardware installed (and usage of). They can, with ther 'dynamically served content' bombard you will e-mails. If they notice, for example, that you play GTA 4 then when GTA 5 comes out they'll spam you - all legally of course.

It's a worrying thing that they want to know what you are installing / uninstalling and then recording your IP and account details against it.

I, personally, won't touch this piece of rubbish.

Doesn't steam do the same sort of thing?, I remember a article from Valve about how many people had torrent down loaders on their pc detected from Steam app etc, collects ips, pc hard-ware etc.

That's opt in. They invite you to the "steam hardware survey"

Steam already does it for their survey, and while it's running normally. Non-story.

And they have my IP? Noes, not the IPs!!!

Pretty sure my webhost has logs of anyone who's looked at my signature by IP...

Steam does not automatically collect info for the survey, you have to browse Help, System Information then it will scan & collect info & then you may choose compare with others.

I can't believe Origin would be as sneaky as to see what hardware I use!

*looks at everyones public signatures on this forum*
