Never played Mass Effect 3 so I thought I would fire it up and have a go. Origin started a fancy update and it gave me the very similiar looking Windows 10 style Origin V10. However when I tried to log in it had lost my saved password. So after resetting my password as I couldnt remember it the next thing it did was ask for the six digit code via my App Authenticator.

Oh Dear.

My mobile phone died when it tried to do the front crawl in the swimming pool on holiday.

After going round in circles on the new look EA support page I finally managed to get to a chat window.

The transcript is below.

Jake: Thanks for contacting EA Customer Experience, my name is Jake. How may I assist you today?
you: Hi
Jake: Hello!
you: I dropped my phone in the pool when on holiday and I've just come to play Mass Effect 3 and Origin updated. Afterwards it asked for my password and Ive realised I cant use App Authenticator as my phone is damaged. Help !!!
Jake: Ok, no worries we can totally help. We just need to verify your account then we can update what we need to,.
you: ok
Jake: Your security question reads: What city were you born in?
you: ********
Jake: thanks !
Jake: Go ahead and try to login to origin. Let me know when you need a code.
you: its asking for a code
Jake: Use code: ********
Jake: Once were in lets click 'origin' in the top left and go 'account and privacy'
you: FANTASTIC. I`m in
Jake: :)
Jake: Were going to update your authentication so you don't have this issue.
you: it doesn't say that
you: Version 10 ?
Jake: Are you on the website or origin progran?
you: Program
Jake: Oh, your using the new origin.. uhg ok
Jake: Let me change mine.. I dont like the new one haha
you: that's why I think my password disappeared from being saved
Jake: Yep!
you: its a bit "Win 10"
Jake: Give me just a min. I have to update mine to the new one.
you: ok
you: thanks
Jake: No thank you! Ive been putting this off!
you: :)
Jake: Oh wow. I dont like change.
Jake: Click origin in the top left go to EA account and billing. This will open our website
you: ok done
Jake: Then we are going to security.
you: ok
Jake: And finally we will click "turn off" Login verification.
Jake: use code: *******
you: ok done its off
Jake: Then you can either leave it off( I would not do this). Or you can turn it on via text/email
you: If I turn it on does it give me details how to get the Authenticator again as I`m now on an Android phone (was windows before)
Jake: Yep!
Jake: You just select app authentication and it will walk you through it.
you: ok that's great you're a star
Jake: Your welcome! Anything else I can help with today?
you: no that's fine thanks. Have a good evening.
Jake: You too

Suffice to say I`m back in Origin, using the text method for authentication, and feeling rather glad I got honest Jake the EA Support guy.

Lost some games on origin and tried to get them back via chat...and they were so bad i will never buy another game that uses it.

Used EA support twice, both times they resolved my issue within minutes and gave a 25% off code for anything on the store, in contrast I emailed Steam about an issue with my Steam account balance 3 months ago and despite following it up 3 times now I still haven't had a response

EA are far from perfect but their customer service is miles ahead of Steam's abhorrent excuse for customer relations.

Ive had no reply about my son's steam account. Paid for a few games and never had a reply from them. Once they have your cash there not interested.

True 6 months I waited for a response on my Saints Row IV issue with Steam. EA in comparison are pretty good.

Used EA support 3 times myself, every time the issue has been solved in minutes and I've always ended up with extra stuff as an apology.

Origin was the main reason i stopped playing pc games. I could sign into my account fine on the website, but it wouldn't allow me to sign in with the same details on the program itself. I'd buy games that just wouldn't install. Was just so much hassle for something that should be so simple. Getting a pc gaming itch again though.

Odd, I don't think I've ever had an issue getting onto Origin and downloading games. The only issues I've had are keys purchased from grey sites not working. EA chat have quickly fixed these issues though.

managed to lock myself out of my account - went to their support page, they called me back and the agent got me back into my account and helped me reset 2FA and I was on my way.. No issues at all.

I had the old C&C Generals discs and wanted to add them to Origin. Tried redeeming the CD keys but that wouldn't work so contacted support. They apologized and advised they couldn't add just Generals so instead they added the whole of the C&C collection to my Origin account.

Can't fault their CS tbh

I don't really play games anymore, but if I do I try and avoid Steam if possible. Not that it's easy, as they do have a massive monopoly. I dread the day I have to contact their poor excuse for a support team, as I have never heard a good thing about them. Their response time is apparantly measured in weeks, if not months. Pretty obnoxious for a company that's its fanboys tout as "the big thing".

I've never had a problem with Origin and find the servers somewhat more reliable than Steam's, although I may have just got lucky.

Origin and blizzard are far better for support then steam are. Considering steam is the bigger platform they should take note.
