I am thinking about getting a used original iPhone then jailbreaking it. I am in desperate need of a new phone.
Should I get one, how much do you expect the prices to be?
Thanks

Don't bother, it's really old now. Get a cheap Android phone instead.

5 year old device...most will likely not be in usable condition, frankly.

Used iPhone 4/3GS if you want to go the iOS route, but honestly, if you really want a cheap device, I'd go Android, you'll simply get more bang for your buck there.

As an original owner, much as I liked it, it was really showing it's age a couple of years ago. I wouldn't consider it a good purchase today if I'm honest.

I still use my original iPhone, it's pretty useless at most tasks now, all I use it for is a phone and a music player.

Thinking about it, I might just get a Galaxy Ace which is on contract for £10 per month wit h250 mins and 5000 texts and 500 mb internet

Its an amazing device. Revolutionary but by todays application its almost a complete waste of time. The original iPhone was never designed to run an App store & multitasking so as a bogo standard iPhone running software 1.0 its ace.

Completely outpowered by modern IOS updates even the latest you could get on it which I believe is 3.3.3.

I wouldnt get anything less than a 3GS and if it was me personally I wouldnt get anything less than a 4.

Seeing as you wanna jailbreak (eats a lot of juice) You're best experience is the very latest handset

Echo the advice above. If you really want an iPhone you want a 3GS bare minimum, otherwise you'll hate the experience. I have a 4S and I find using a 3GS irritating at times, I can't imagine how irritating the 3G or older must be.

If you can't afford a good 3GS, Android/WM7 is absolutely the way to go.
