Something like the Orange SF 2 (unlocked to giffgaff) would be perfect instead of an original iPhone. Bought both my parents one, they're great, especially when updated (thanks to modaco). I had an iphone 3G before I upgraded to a 4S, the 3G was painful to use towards the end, an original one would be 10x worse, it doesn't even have 3g internet.
